Although Larreta has reportedly denied the rumors, the posting might have tipped the scale

An untimely posting Sunday morning on X might have decided the fate of the Argentine elections. TV host Pamela David, wife of businessman Daniel Vila, who owns several media nationwide, wrote that if Economy Minister Sergio Massa is elected president, his successor at the helm of the country’s finances would be no other than Buenos Aires Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta.

“Last night I had dinner with @SergioMassa. If he is elected president, his Minister of Economy will be @horaciorlarreta,” posted David, who has openly admitted she would vote for the Unión por la Patria (UxP) candidate.

Rodríguez Larreta lost the opposition Juntos por el Cambio (JxC) primary elections to Patricia Bullrich, who offered him to be Cabinet Chief if she made it to the Casa Rosada. But after the Oct. 22 polls when she too was left out of the race, she and former President Mauricio Macri sided with Congressman Javier Milei of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) while Larreta and other JxC leaders endorsed Massa.

Although Larreta has denied the rumors, David’s remarks were said to have tipped the scale for many undecided voters who would now choose Milei. For other social media users, the entry was proof that the ruling UxP government already anticipated defeat and was seeking to shake the turf by any means.

Meanwhile, President Alberto Fernández wrote after casting his vote: “Today is an important and very happy day, we Argentines are expressing ourselves and choosing our future. Let us go through it calmly and peacefully. I hope that Argentina continues to respect and take care of the democracy that we recovered 40 years ago.”
